How to use Tally with a scanner

This guide provides instructions on how to use Tally with a scanner.

Please refer to your scanner instructions on how to connect your scanner with your device. 

These instructions will use the Socket Mobile S700 Scanner. Please click here for instructions on how to connect the S700 scanner with an iPad. We have highlighted key features in the screenshots in red.

Scanning a product

The following steps outline how to scan a product.

1. Scan a product barcode

Scan a barcode - you may be required to click on the Remove leading zero checkbox2. The scanned barcode will be validated and a count of 1 will be added

3. Continue scanning additional quantities of the same product (optional)

4. Product details will appear for easy reference

5. Tally will display a running count of the scanned product barcodeTally will display a running count of the scanned product barcode 

6. To complete the physical count, make sure all counts have been submitted and press the Physical count button to return to the stock count

    Scanning various products

    The following steps outline how to scan various products.

    1. Scan a product barcode

    2. The scanned barcode will be validated and a count of 1 will be added

    3. Product details will appear for easy reference

    4. Tally will display a running count of the scanned product barcode

    5. Scan a different product barcode

    6. The scanned barcode will be validated and a count of 1 will be added

      7. Product details will appear for easy reference

      8. Continue scanning additional quantities of the same product (optional)

      9. Tally will display a running count of the scanned product barcode

      10. To complete the physical count, make sure all counts have been submitted and press the Physical count button to return to the stock countTo complete the physical count, make sure all counts have been submitted and press the Physical count button to return to the stock count

      Returning to a previously scanned product

      The following steps outline what happens when you scan a previously counted product.

      1. Scan a product barcode

      2. The scanned barcode will be validated and a count of 1 will be added

      3. Product details will appear for easy reference

      4. Tally will display a running count of the scanned product barcode

      5. Scan a different product barcode

      6. The scanned barcode will be validated and a count of 1 will be added

      7. Product details will appear for easy reference

      8. Continue scanning additional quantities of the same product (optional)

      9. Tally will display a running count of the scanned product barcode

      10. Scan the product barcode in Step 1 above

      11. The scanned barcode will be validated and a count of 1 will be addedThe scanned barcode will be validated and a count of 1 will be added

      12. Product details will appear for easy reference

      13. Tally will display a running count of the scanned product barcode

      Completing the physical count

      The following steps outline how to complete the physical count and submit the tallies.

      1. Ensure all products have been scanned or accounted for

      Scanning a non-existent barcode for the stock count

      The following steps outline what occurs if you scan a barcode that is not part of the current stock count.

      1. Scan a non-existent product barcode

      2. Tally will attempt to validate the product barcode

      3. An error message appears stating the product does not exist in the current stock count

      4. To continue, close the modal and click on the barcode input field to scan another product barcode or click on Clear
